Indications:
This is to detect diseases of the small intestine such as celiac disease, lymphoma, or Whipple’s disease.
Cons-indications:
Hemostasis disorders and against any indication to general anesthesia.
Technique:
There are two techniques:
– High biopsies are done by gastroesophageal endoscopic examination;
– Distal biopsies are done through a flexible endoscope that can cross the ileocecal valve.
fasting patient, the technique is the same as that of the gastroscopy or colposcopy.
Results:
Biopsies allow, with the pathological diagnosis, diagnose the supposed affection or to monitor treatment.
Incidents:
Essentially rare bleeding and perforations.
Cost:
B75 + K40 to K100.
Practical advice:
In children, the small bowel biopsy is sometimes the only way to diagnose celiac disease.
